Deep Sleep ® natural topical sleep aid is a potent woodsy blend containing 99.9% pure, imported, therapeutic grade essential oils / plant extracts. Most aromatherapy synergy blends for deep natural sleep have only two key ingredients. Deep Sleep ® aromatherapy synergy blend has six: bergamot (bergaptene free), chamomile Roman, marjoram sweet: not for use by pregnant women, neroli (bitter orange blossom), valerian root (we use only the best), and petitgrain. Deep Sleep ® aromatherapy natural topical sleep aid is diluted 50/50 with grapeseed oil -- a light, fast absorbing, moisturizing, fragrance free carrier oil -- so that our formula can be applied directly to the skin at bedtime or used in the bath. Formula
Our blend contains 50% essenial oils and 50% grapeseed oil. If you dilute Deep Sleep ® further, we cannot guarantee its effectiveness. Rather than adding more carrier oil, try using Smooth All Over cream, which contains no mineral oil; a barrier / blocks absorption -- fast absorbing, unscented. Wait until completely absorbed.

How to apply it
Because Deep Sleep ® is diluted 50/50 with grapseed oil, you can and should apply it directly to the skin. It's ready for use. This is especially helpful late at night when you can't sleep. Deep Sleep ® is not as fragrant as our other two formulas. Therefore, we recommend keeping it away from your upper body. You can bath in it, although the water will dilute the ingredients further, and the odor could disrupt your sleep. Unlike swallowing pills, which can take up to 60 minutes to digest, using Deep Sleep ® is fast, gentle and non-habit forming. In no time you will start to feel a bit woozy, like you've just had two glasses of wine -- which to most of us is a very pleasant feeling. If you awaken after 4 to 6 hours, reapply sparingly, preferably to the soles of the feet for faster absorption. After trying Deep Sleep ® once or twice, you will have a better sense of exactly how much is right for you. The amount of Deep Sleep ® you will need will depend on how sensitive you are, your weight, age, the severity of your insomnia or anxiety, and your general health. If symptoms persist, see your doctor.

What is a synergy blend?
Essential oils extracted or distilled from plants, flowers, tree bark and roots are very powerful on their own, but when carefully blended, their individual properties are greatly enhanced. Mixing essential oils together in exact proportions to achieve a particular result creates a synergistic effect whereby the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. The act of combining neat / undiluted essential oils into what aromatherapists have termed a "synergy blend" makes the application process far more efficient and less costly, since you won't need to buy as many bottles or spend as much money to obtain the results you desire. The art / science of combining essential oils so that they work is like making fine wine and real perfume. It takes education, experimention, time (10 years), talent, and a commitment to quality and excellence.
What is bergaptene?
Many plants contain furocoumarins such as bergaptene, which are known photo-sensitizers. Bergaptene is a naturally occuring component of bergamot essential oil. When bergamot oil is applied to the skin, it can become very senstive to ultravoilet light, causing dermatitis. In mild cases it can be seen as a reddening of the skin. The reddening will resolve in a few weeks, although the accompany high hyper-pigmentation (brown spots) can take months or sometimes years to fully disappear. That's why we always use bergaptene-free bergamot in our Deep Sleep ® formula.
What are the exact proportions?
Like any secret recipe, although we told you what's inside the bottle, since aromatherapy is neither a food nor a drug, and since it is not ingested, it is not governed by the Food and Drug Administration. Therefore, we are not required by law to give you the exact proportions.
COA: Certificate of Authenticity
A COA is a document stating that what we say is inside the bottle is in there. In the case of aromatherapy, the document would be from an outside lab, that would test every batch and generate a report. Each test or report would cost us $325. Since we are blending our Deep Sleelp ® formula by hand in small batches at this time, batch testing is not an affordable option. Therefore, you have our word that you will get the same reliable product each and every time you order Deep Sleep ® from us, or your money back.

How long does it last?
Aromatherapy neat / undiluted can be stored for up to two years. Most carrier oils, which are food grade oils, can be stored for six months. Adding a carrier oil to an essential oil extends the shelf life considerably. FYI, we are still using an aromatherapy formula that we ordered ten years ago for PMS, that inadvertently promotes sleep, which has many of the same ingredients that Deep Sleep ® has. It is in a carrier oil / sweet almond oil, that stabilized and preserved it, and it is as good as the day we ordered it. We are also using a bottle of Deep Sleep ® that we blended five years ago, and it works just fine. Therefore, based on our experience with both formulas, the shelf life of Deep Sleep ® cannot be accurately determined, but it is considerably more than two years.
How much will I need?
The amount of Deep Sleep ® you will need will depend on your weight, age, sex, health: your frequency of insomnia, and your sensitivity to aromatherapy. After trying Deep Sleep ® once or twice, you will have a better idea of exactly how much is right for you. One of our customers, an African American male in his mid thirties, orders a 5 ml (1/6 oz) bottle of Deep Sleep once every three months. He uses Deep Sleep ® about twice a week, applying six drops to the sole of each foot.
Who makes it? / Licensing
Deep Sleep ® is blended by hand in small batches for freshness by Gail Seymour, President, GSPI dba Just Relax... ® / Communications Vice-President, Association for Holistic Health. She is interested in licensing her formula, and potentially selling the product name, to a major international company.
The color may vary
Grapeseed oil, an ultra light carrier oil made from grapeseeds, is used to dilute essential oils. Depending upon the variety of grapes, grapeseed oil will vary in color from light yellow to light green. If the grapeseed oil we use is greenish, Deep Sleep ® will have a greenish tint. If the grapeseed oil is more yellow, Deep Sleep ® will be yellow. Since our bottles are tinted, this will not be an issue for our wholesale customers.
Do not accept substitutes
There are at least five other US companies that we are aware of that have an aromatherapy / essential oil blend called Deep Sleep. They are different from ours / not ours. We have and are in the process of contacting them, requesting that they change their labeling. The most popular is The Body Shop's, used only to scent a room. Their formula contains two ingredients: chamomile and an odd sounding berry that we've never heard of. The others of have two or three ingredients. Some have actually combined lavender with chamomile, which we did when we first started. It smells bad, like rotting garbage.
Application from bottle
Store Deep Sleep ® in your bedroom closet, inside your night stand, in your medicine cabinet, or wherever it's readily available, as long as it's in a cool, dark place. With the plastic applicator touching the skin, use the bottle as you would a roll-on. Don't touch the oil. If you apply it properly, it won't run and you won't have to get up afterward to wash your hands. Apply Deep Sleep ® to one side of your body in a circular motion, forming a 2" wide strip. Starting at the hip, continue down the thigh and calf, stopping at just above the ankle. Wait 20 minutes. If you don't feel drowsy, repeat the process on the other side of the body. - Order the roll-on bottle of Deep Sleep ® instead of our bottle with orifice reducer. The benefits of using a roll-on are that you won't have to touch the oil with your fingers; therefore, you won't have to wash your hands afterward.
For bathing / Deep Sleep ® Bath Oil
Although our formula was designed for application to the skin, directly from the bottle, to make it more cost effective, you may want to add 10 to 20 drops to your bath water. Bathing does two things: (a) it dilutes the formula while reducing the effectiveness; (b) since soaking covers more area of your skin, it will work faster than necessary. In our opinion, bathing in Deep Sleep ® is not advisable, but if you decide to do it anyway, use extreme caution when getting out of the tub as you will probably be groggy.
Warning: Never apply neat / undiluted essential oils directly to the skin. Never ingest (drink) them. Do not use Deep Sleep ® in combination with prescription or OTC (over the counter) medications or herbal formulas taken by mouth. Not for use by children under the age of three or pets. If you are pregnant, do not use Deep Sleep ®. It contains sweet marjoram, which has been shown to induce or hasten menstrual flow. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or if you are nursing (breast feeding), do not use this product. Caution: If you are taking prescription medications, consult your pharmacist (they have some training) or physician (they probably won't know) before using any essential oils. Aromatherapy, derived from plants and fruits, and drugs (synthetic / chemicals) don't mix. Take great care when using Deep Sleep ® for bathing. We don't want you to fall asleep in the tub or slip getting out.
