Deep Sleep ® aromatherapy / essential oil synergy blend is a natural topical sleep aid applied to the skin at bedtime. Although it is used primiarily by people who have insomnia, Deep Sleep ® has also been shown to significantly relieve the symptoms of anxiety, panic and depression, as well as reduce the pain from PMS, fibromyalgia and more. Deep Sleep ® is diluted 50/50 with grapeseed oil: a light, fast absorbing, moisturizing, fragrance free carrier oil, so that it can be applied directly to the skin at bedtime or used in the bath. Deep Sleep ® is blended by hand by us in small batches to keep it fresh. For your safety, nothing (essential oils, bottles or packaging) comes from China.

Most companies use a 20% dilution, meaning that their formula or blend contains 20% essential oil(s) and 80% carrier oil(s), such as grapeseed, jojoba, or one of the many nut oils. Our dilution is a whopping 50%. If you would like to dilute Deep Sleep ® further yourself, you may. A 16 oz bottle of grapeseed oil costs $8. For a smaller bottle of grapeseed oil, contact us. If you see a larger size bottle of Deep Sleep (no trademark) than ours, for less money than ours, although it might look like a better deal than ours, you'll probably find that it's a weaker dilution than ours. The most potent and most effective essential oils for insomnia are also the most expensive. Do not accept substitutes.

HOW TO APPLY IT
Because Deep Sleep ® is diluted 50/50 with grapseed oil, you can and should apply it directly to the skin. It's ready for use. This is especially helpful late at night when you can't sleep. Deep Sleep ® is not as fragrant as our other two formulas. Therefore, we recommend keeping it away from your upper body. You can bath in it, although the water will dilute the ingredients further, and the odor could disrupt your sleep. Unlike taking pills, which can take up to 60 minutes to digest, using Deep Sleep ® is fast, gentle and non-habit forming. In no time you will start to feel woozy, like you just had two glasses of wine -- which, to most of us, is very pleasant feeling. If you awaken after 4 to 6 hours, reapply sparingly to the soles of the feet for faster absorption. After trying Deep Sleep ® once or twice, you will have a better idea of exactly how much is right for you. The amount of Deep Sleep ® you will need will depend on how sensitive you are, your weight, age, the severity of your insomnia or anxiety, and your general health. If symptoms persist, see your doctor.

What is a synergy blend?
Essential oils extracted or distilled from plants, flowers, tree bark and roots are very powerful on their own, but when carefully blended, their individual properties are greatly enhanced. Mixing essential oils together in exact proportions to achieve a particular result creates a synergistic effect whereby the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. The act of combining neat / undiluted essential oils into what aromatherapists have termed a "synergy blend" makes the application process far more efficient and less costly, since you won't need to buy as many bottles or spend as much money to obtain the results you desire. The art / science of combining essential oils so that they work is like making fine wine and real perfume. It takes education, experimention, time (10 years), talent, and a commitment to quality and excellence.
What is bergaptene?
Many plants contain furocoumarins such as bergaptene, which are known photo-sensitizers. Bergaptene is a naturally occuring component of bergamot essential oil. When bergamot oil is applied to the skin, it can become very senstive to ultravoilet light, causing dermatitis. In mild cases it can be seen as a reddening of the skin. The reddening will resolve in a few weeks, although the accompany high hyper-pigmentation (brown spots) can take months or sometimes years to fully disappear. That's why we always use bergaptene-free bergamot in our Deep Sleep ® formula.
What are the exact proportions?
Like any secret recipe, although we told you what's inside the bottle, since aromatherapy is neither a food nor a drug, and since it is not ingested, it is not governed by the Food and Drug Administration. Therefore, we are not required by law to give you the exact proportions. We patented our formula in June, 2010, with the goal of either selling our formula outright to an international company, or licensing our formula to several companies, so that it can be distributed and sold affordably worldwide.
COA: Certificate of Authenticity
A COA is a document stating that what we say is inside the package is so. In the case of aromatherapy, the document would be created by an outside lab, which would test every batch and create a report. Each test costs $325. Since we are blending by hand in small batches, this testing is not affordable.

With Deep Sleep ® aromatherapy formula, you will start to feel relaxed in about ten minutes, and you'll begin to feel sleepy in twenty. You should be asleep in a half hour. If not, reapply.

How long does it last?
Aromatherapy neat / undiluted can be stored for up to two years. Most carrier oils, which are food grade oils, can be stored for six months. However, we're still using a formula that we ordered ten years ago for PMS, that inadvertently promotes sleep, which has many of the same ingredients that Deep Sleep ® has. It's in a carrier oil, to stabilize and preserve it, and it's as good as the day we got it. We're also using a bottle of Deep Sleep ® blended five years ago, and it works fine. Therefore, based on our experience with both formulas, the shelf life of Deep Sleep ® cannot be accurately determined.

How much will I need?
The amount of Deep Sleep ® you will need will depend on your weight, age, sex, health: your frequency of insomnia, and your sensitivity to aromatherapy. After trying Deep Sleep ® once or twice, you will have a better idea of exactly how much is right for you. One of our customers, an African American male in his mid thirties, orders a 5 ml (1/6 oz) bottle of Deep Sleep once every three months. He uses Deep Sleep ® about twice a week, applying six drops to the sole of each foot.
Who makes it?
Deep Sleep ® was formulated by and is blended by hand in small batches -- this is how fine wine and the most expensive French perfumes are still made -- by Gail Seymour, Pres., GSPI dba Just Relax... ® / Communications Vice-Pres., Association for Holistic Health.
The color may vary
Grapeseed oil, a light carrier oil made from grapeseeds, is used to dilute essential oils. Depending upon the variety of grapes, grapeseed oil will vary in color from light yellow to light green. If the grapeseed oil we use is greenish, Deep Sleep ® will have a greenish tint. If the grapeseed oil is more yellow, Deep Sleep ® will be yellow. Since our bottles are dark, this will not be an issue for our wholesale customers.
Do not accept substitutes
There are five other US companies that we are aware of that have an aromatherapy / essential oil blend called Deep Sleep. They are different from ours / not ours. The most pouplar is The Body Shop's, used only to scent a room. It contains chamomile, which doesn't smell great, and a berry we've never heard of. The rest have two or three ingredients. A few combine lavender and chamomile, which smells awful.
Application from bottle
Store Deep Sleep ® in your bedroom closet, inside your night stand, in your medicine cabinet, or wherever it's readily available, as long as it's in a cool, dark place. With the plastic applicator touching the skin, use the bottle as you would a roll-on. Don't touch the oil. If you apply it properly, it won't run and you won't have to get up afterward to wash your hands. Apply Deep Sleep ® to one side of your body in a circular motion, forming a 2" wide strip. Starting at the hip, continue down the thigh and calf, stopping at just above the ankle. Wait 20 minutes. If you don't feel drowsy, repeat the process on the other side of the body. - Order the roll-on bottle of Deep Sleep ® instead of our bottle with orifice reducer. The benefits of using a roll-on are that you won't have to touch the oil with your fingers; therefore, you won't have to wash your hands afterward.
For bathing / Deep Sleep ® Bath Oil
Although our formula was designed for application to the skin, directly from the bottle, to make it more cost effective, you're welcome to add 10 to 20 to your bath water if you prefer. Water will dilute the formula and may reduce the effectiveness.
WARNING: Never apply neat / undiluted essential oils directly to the skin. Never ingest (drink) them. Do not use Deep Sleep ® in combination with prescription or OTC (over the counter) medications or herbal formulas taken by mouth. Not for use by children under the age of three or pets. If you are pregnant, do not use Deep Sleep ®. It contains sweet marjoram, which has been shown to induce or hasten menstrual flow. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or if you are nursing (breast feeding), do not use this product. CAUTION: If you are taking prescription medications, consult your pharmacist (they have some training) or physician (they probably won't know) before using any essential oils. Aromatherapy, derived from plants and fruits, and drugs (synthetic / chemicals) don't mix.
