The first season was expertly presented by Jonathan Ross, and the second and third seasons after that have been hosted by
the Penn & Teller: Fool Us a Host Alyson Hannigan.

Each episode starts off by introducing the reason for the series. Penn & Teller come out and sit down at the stage. The eager magicians will perform their magic in front of them with a live studio audience. Following each show, Penn & Teller privately discuss the show while the host questions the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal their knowledge of how the trick was executed, usually using cryptic language or writing down the method and presenting it privately to the magicians to confirm, so as to avoid publicly exposing the method behind the trick.

Season 5 will premiere on the 18th of October, 2022.

Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) and at the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas (season two onward). After each performance, when Penn & Teller cannot figure out how the trick was done, then the magician(s) that performed it win a Fool Us trophy and a five-star trip to Las Vegas to perform as the opening act in Penn & Teller`s show in addition to The Rio Hotel & Casino.

The ninth season began on October 3, 2021.

Teller notes that the doublespeak is a way to teach people new techniques without ruining the trick. Should Penn & Teller are wrong or are unable to come up with how they did it, the magician will be awarded the Fool Us trophy and the chance to perform again at one of Penn & Teller`s Las Vegas shows. A backstage judge, who is well-versed in the art of magician`s trade and is intimately informed how the trick is done before the performance, makes needed calls to determine if Penn & Teller were properly fooled. At the end of each show, Penn & Teller perform the magic trick on their own.

Penn and Teller have a friendly rapport with the magicians who appear on their show. Penn and Teller`s hosting tasks were temporarily handled from Jonathan Ross in the first season, but they returned to host the show from season two onward. Penn & Teller The Fool Us series was shot in Fountain Studios in London, England during its initial season before moving onto the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada for its second season onward.

The magicians presenting tricks in Penn & Teller: Fool Us are typically skilled illusionists and sleight-of-hand artists. They typically add to the mystery of the trick by performing the trick in complete darkness or creating distraction through conversation or sounds.

Season three onward, from season three, the top ten performers who successfully fooled Penn and Teller are invited to return for an exclusive episode from Fool Us in which they each will show off their tricks again and try to fool Penn and Teller for an additional $10000 cash prize.

Teller remains taciturn throughout the the show, but they do communicate through subtle gestures with each other. They have been known to talk with magicians performing and ask for them to repeat specific actions or to provide additional information.
